Hi! I’m Ava and welcome! I am proud Tar Heel alumna from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Media and Journalism within the Hussman School and a second major in Political Science. At Carolina I was a Stembler Scholar, Eugene L. Roberts Prize winner and recipient of the Lillian Chason Scholarship.
I am an associate producer on the NPR Newscast team responsible for creating national newscasts heard 24/7. In my spare time I am a freelance reporter.
I previously was a Reporter/Producer for WRVO Public Media. Based out of Syracuse, I covered all of central New York. I’ve had stories air on NPR news magazines and NPR national newscasts as well as across Upstate New York NPR member stations as part of the New York Public News Network. Before coming to New York, I was a reporter, social media producer and board operator at 97.9 The Hill WCHL and Chapelboro.com in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
At UNC I reported and produced for campus publications Carolina Connection and Carolina Week as well as UNC Media Hub working on a multimedia team and pitching our stories to outlets across the state. Also at UNC I served as Station Manager of UNC Student Television, overseeing more than a dozen shows each semester and serving in a variety of production roles. I dabbled in theatre as well as a producer for the department of dramatic art undergraduate company Kenan Theatre Company.
